From the stunning English south coast to the vibrant streets of London, the language trip to Broadstairs became far more than just a school excursion for the students of Realschule Neutraubling. It turned into an unforgettable adventure filled with new friendships, exciting discoveries, and — above all — a huge boost in confidence when speaking English.
The moment we arrived in the charming seaside town of Broadstairs in Kent on Sunday 7th June 2026, excitement was everywhere. Our host families welcomed us warmly into their homes and immediately introduced us to authentic British life and hospitality. Living with English-speaking families meant that the language experience did not stop after class — English became part of our everyday life from breakfast to bedtime. At the language school, learning English suddenly felt completely different. Modern teaching methods, motivating teachers, and international classes created an atmosphere where speaking English became natural and fun. Whether during lessons, while ordering food, chatting with local people, or making friends from other countries, we constantly used English in real-life situations. Many students were amazed at how quickly their confidence improved. Speaking English, which sometimes felt difficult at school, soon started to feel easy and automatic. But this trip was about much more than lessons. A lively town trail through Broadstairs challenged us to explore the town, solve tasks, and discover its history and culture in an interactive way. In the evenings, unforgettable social events brought everyone together. At the disco night, German and Spanish students danced, laughed, and created memories that will last for years. Some of us even learned a few Spanish dance moves along the way.
Another highlight was the traditional English barn dance. With a live band and a professional caller guiding us through the dances, the evening quickly turned into a mix of chaos, laughter, and pure fun. Twirling, jumping, and dancing together was a fantastic way to experience British culture firsthand. Of course, the absolute highlight of the week was our full-day trip to London. The adventure began with a scenic boat ride on the Thames from Greenwich to Westminster, offering spectacular views of London’s iconic skyline. Afterwards, we explored some of the city’s most famous landmarks, including Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, and many more. Walking through Oxford Street and Covent Garden gave us the perfect opportunity to experience the energy of London — and, naturally, to enjoy some shopping. Best of all: an entire day without classes! Our visit to Canterbury added another unforgettable chapter to the trip. The historic streets, impressive cathedral, and charming atmosphere made the city feel like stepping back in time. In the evening, karaoke night gave everyone the chance to become a superstar for a few minutes. From pop songs to dramatic ballads, the performances were full of energy, courage, and laughter.
As the week came to an end with a beautiful coastal walk along the cliffs, we realised how much we had gained from this experience. Not only had our English improved enormously, but we had also become more independent, open-minded, and confident. Using English every single day showed us how important languages are for connecting with people and discovering the world.
We would especially like to thank above all Ms Bauer and Ms Werkmann who had planned and organized the complete trip precisely and the other accompanying teachers, Ms Fuchs, Mr Ettl, Mr Lade and Mr Cabarth who supported us throughout the entire trip with incredible patience, enthusiasm, and care. A big thank you also goes to our headmaster, Mr Gruber whose support made this experience possible from the very beginning.
We are also deeply grateful to the teachers at KSE school in Broadstairs. Their creative lessons, innovative materials, and motivating teaching style made learning English enjoyable and highly effective. By the end of the week, many of us were speaking English far more fluently and confidently than ever before. Finally, we would like to thank our parents for giving us the opportunity to take part in this wonderful journey. And one message to the future Year 8 students: don’t miss this opportunity! The language trip to Broadstairs is much more than a school trip — it is an adventure, an unforgettable week, and the perfect way to improve your English while having a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
